Data protection

This website is owned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a public company of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, that implements the latter’s international cooperation policy. In this capacity, the GIZ has created this website to facilitate the implementation of the Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management (GIDRM).

As a promoter of rule of law, human rights and sustainability, the GIZ pays much to the protection of your personal data, especially as it is not only subject to the German Data Protection Laws, but equally the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), one of the world’s most rigourous data protection laws. This notice therefore provides information on the personal data processed by this website.

WHAT DATA DO WE PROCESS?
Personal data is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person. We do process the following personal data.

Cookies: Cookies are small text files that are stored locally in your browser cache, each time you visit a given website. They constitute personal data, because when combined with other data, it may lead to the identification of your browser, and consequently you. However, we use session cookies (to make navigation easier), which expire at the end of each session, and they are essential cookies that do not require your consent. We do not use non-essential cookies (that are subject to your consent) nor methods such as Java applets or ActiveX controls that make it possible to track your browsing behaviour. The legal ground for the use such non-essential cookies is Art.6(1)e GDPR, since the processing is necessary for performance of a task carried out in the public interest. You may object to the use of cookies by adjusting your browser settings for this purpose. However, such object may lead to slow navigation.

Website Analytics: For statistical purposes and to improve our service, this website uses technology provided by the statistic tool Matomo, which evaluates and then deletes data. No other use is made of the data, and the data are not passed on to third parties. Every time you visit a page on the website and every time you download a file, information about the activity is processed and stored in a temporary protocol file. Before it is stored, each data set is rendered anonymous by altering the IP address. The following information is stored for each page you view and each file you download:

• Technical details of the browser used
• Anonymous IP address
• Date and time
• Page opened/name of the file downloaded
• Quantity of data transferred
• Notification of whether viewing or download was successful

The purpose of processing such data is to evaluate the efficiency of our website and determine the extent to which it is used as a public knowledge platform for disaster risk management. The legal ground for processing this data is Art.6(1)e GDPR, the performance of a task carried out in the public interest. You may equally object to the use of analytics by adjusting your browser settings for this purpose. However, if every individual objects, the GIZ may have difficulties in evaluating the progress of this project.

We do not process personal data such as name, email address, address, date of birth or any other direct identifier.

Personal Data contained in shared links: Our website equally provide links to YouTube videos that contain personal data of natural persons, such as images, voices, sex, etc. The Authors of the videos and those who made them publicly available are responsible for ensuring that data protection as well as copywrite requirements have been met before producing and making the videos publicly available. It is not the responsibility of the GIZ to do so. YouTube is equally responsible for any the cookies that it uses.

DISCLOSURE TO THIRD PARTIES AND DATA TRANSFERS
The website is hosted by Host Europe GmbH, a German company, with headquarters in Köln (Hansestr. 111, 51149 Köln).

It is worth pointing out that the GDPR requires us to work only with reliable processors. In this regard, we did not only examine the service providers’ technical and organizational data protection measures, but we equally concluded a data processing agreement with them, to ensure that personal data should only be processed in accordance with our documented instructions. Moreover, as EU processors, these service providers are equally subject to the GDPR.

Apart from the above-mentioned service providers, we do not work with other data processor. Your personal data (statistics) may be briefly evaluated only the EU and immediately anonymized, and will not be disclosed to any other party, neither will they be used to identify you, nor be used for advertising purposes.

YOUR RIGHTS AS A DATA SUBJECT
As earlier mentioned, you have the right to object to the above-mentioned data processing operations, by adjusting your browser settings. However, as a data subject, you equally have the right to complaint with a data protection supervisory authority or bring legal action against us (and demand compensation), whenever you feel that your rights have been violated. At any time, you may as well contact us to find out what information we do have that concerns you.
